Affidavit follows a daughter visiting her father in prison. There, she struggles to separate the reality of who her father is and who she remembers him to be.

Affidavit is in its pre-production stage and recently launched their Seed&Spark. You can access it here:

The Seed&Spark will be up for the next 60 days as they work towards their goal of raising $15,000. This project is packed with many hardworking Austin-based creatives, featuring the following:

Sara Rubio as the writer/lead actress, Andrew Orticio as the director, Marlon Rubio-Smith as the lead producer, and Josh Bowlin as the director of photography.

See their fundraising video here:

The visual inspiration of the film comes from 70s-set projects such as X and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Its thematic inspirations, You and Adolescence, delve into similar themes and sense of tone that this short seeks to embody. Affidavit is best categorized as a family drama that draws from the writer's own personal experiences. It can be difficult to pull from one's own life but Sara has remained determined and brave in her honest exploration of such complex questions and emotions.

Sara has entrusted director Andrew Orticio to bring this script to life as the two have a stored history of collaboration as an actor-director duo. This level of trust and honesty will only further enhance the depth of the film. This is Rubio's first experience working behind the camera and she knew that wearing too many hats would not be helpful for the film. She is excited to see this brought to life as her intent with this project is to create a work of art that leaves people questioning the parts of themselves they are yet to confront.

Princpal photography will begin at the end of Feburary 2026 and shooting will conclude in March 2026. Affidavit will film its exteriors in the town of Presidio, Texas - a town with a population just coming in over 3,000. An ideal town for the story being told. The interiors will be shot in Austin, Texas as the crew is local to the city. Traveling 7 hours outside of Austin, shooting flashback scenes on super 8 film, and undergoing numerous rehearsals are merely a few things that give this film a sense of authenticity. It is this authenticity that should be celebrated in filmmakers such as Sara we should support in their journey to give a project such a sense of identity.
